Sons of General Lee (SOGL) is a collaborative project between Roddy Graham and Mike Gray started in early 2015. The project focuses on moving organic and analog sounds into a Techno soundscape to produce tracks that are all slightly left of centre. It could be buzzing synth sounds or it could be tracks influenced by the likes of Perc and Ness mixed with Radiohead and Massive Attack. There’s always an element of constructed chaos, but the key elements have consistently been to create what has not been heard before, within the envelope of Techno or Electronica.
Roddy, with techno under his skin since 1986, deals with the majority of the technical aspects of the tracks as an established techno producer, mixing and mastering engineer. Both Roddy and Mike combine on the creative elements.
Mike is an ex-indie rock kid with a number of years of experience of how to break your fingers on a guitar/bass. Mike main interest is in the song writing capabilities of Techno.
SOGL also have a monthly radio show on TD1 Radio 106.5 FM - http://www.td1radio.com/ where the madness of their tracks mixes with the established great techno artists. The show is available on the first Saturday of the month and also found online via app’s such as TuneIn http://tunein.com/
In April 2015 – this pair from the Scottish Borders release their first EP of Electronica Honey Crystal Rise Wraith EP available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify etc.
Lately the emphasis has been on a deep dive into techno-land exploring the random capabilities of Eurorack and creating tracks that are darker and wilder than a bad Borders winter. If they had a tag line it would be – accessible, yet terrifying.
